We’re hiring: Assistant Director of Finance at Queen’s University Belfast

As a senior leader in our 120-strong Finance Directorate, you’ll report directly to the Director of Finance and support high-level internal and external committees. You will lead key areas outlined below:

  • Financial and Statutory Reporting & Compliance (including risk and audit)
  • Procurement
  • Taxation
  • Pensions
  • Treasury and Capital

About The Person

You will be a strategic thinker and empathetic leader, capable of building strong professional relationships across diverse teams. Creativity and outside-the-box thinking are essential for providing innovative solutions to complex challenges.

Essential Criteria
  • Degree or equivalent qualification plus a recognized professional accountancy qualification (e.g., CAI, ACCA)
  • Substantial post-qualification experience in financial reporting, compliance, and audit at a senior level within large or complex organizations or professional services firms
  • Proven expertise in internal controls, risk management, and regulatory compliance
  • Experience collaborating with tax and professional advisors on complex issues
  • Experience drafting and presenting papers to senior stakeholders
  • Successful leadership and mentorship of teams
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines with multidisciplinary teams
  • High professional credibility with excellent interpersonal, networking, advocacy, and influencing skills
  • Effective communication skills at all levels and stakeholder influence
  • Analytical mindset with risk management and creative problem-solving abilities
