Ainscough Crane Hire in West London have a rare opportunity for an Assistant Depot Manager to join their busy team, on a maternity cover contract for 12 months. You will assist the Depot Manager in achieving company objectives by managing the depot resource in an efficient and cost-effective manner whilst providing the highest level of customer service.

This position is not just about keeping things running smoothly—it’s about continuously improving processes, optimising performance, and ensuring the depot operates at its full potential.

Job Purpose/Objectives of an Assistant Depot Manager

As an essential support to the Depot Manager, this role is focused on driving efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and operational excellence within the depot. By strategically managing resources, ensuring seamless co-ordination, and upholding company policies, it plays a key part in achieving business objectives. A strong emphasis is placed on delivering exceptional customer service, fostering a positive experience for customers while maintaining the highest standards of health and safety.

Key Responsibilities of an Assistant Depot Manager

  • Driving business growth by ensuring the depot remains profitable, hitting both sales and profit targets.
  • Building and maintaining strong customer relationships to deliver top-tier service and satisfaction.
  • Upholding and enforcing all quality standards and procedures to maintain excellence in operations.
  • Prioritising safety by ensuring all depot activities comply with required safety standards.
  • Leading by example, ensuring all depot staff understand and follow the company’s health & safety policies.
  • Overseeing vehicle maintenance and certification, ensuring all equipment meets legal requirements and remains available for hire.
  • Implementing and upholding company policies and procedures, ensuring smooth administration and compliance.
  • Managing and motivating depot staff, overseeing timekeeping, professionalism, and workplace presentation.
  • Demonstrating strong leadership to inspire and guide employees towards excellence.
  • Ensuring fair and consistent application of the company’s disciplinary and grievance procedures, working closely with HR.
  • Continuously seeking ways to enhance efficiency and effectiveness, driving ongoing improvements in the role.

Person Specification

  • Minimum 1 years' management experience in a commercial business
  • People management and health & safety management
  • Local geographical knowledge
  • Good transport / logistics knowledge
  • Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of working within a time critical service environment
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation
  • Available for 'on call' situations

Skills

  • IT literate – comfortable using systems Excel/Word/PowerPoint
  • Ability to influence, persuade and have flexibility.
  • Ability to deal with conflict and negotiate / manage the appropriate outcome.
