Assistant Database Manager

Department: Health, Medicine and Life Sciences / Psychology, Sports and Geography

FTE: 1 full time (working 37 hours per week)

Duration of Contract: Fixed Term (12 month contract)

Salary: UH6 £33,002pa to £38,784pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience

Annual Leave: 35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield

You will join an active research team, the Health Research Methods Unit (HRMU) incorporating the Clinical Trials Support Network, in the School of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences delivering high quality externally funded applied health research. You will join a team of more than 20 staff including senior academics, research staff, and postgraduate researchers, currently supporting more than 20 externally funded research projects. You will be supported to develop your research related skills within the remit of health and social care, and to develop personally as the team continues to grow. You will be encouraged to actively participate in the academic life of the Research Unit and department and assist in the business of the HRMU to help and support development of the group.

Main duties and responsibilities

The appointee will support the delivery of a number of projects with a focus on two separate work streams.

You will support development and delivery of research databases supporting a number of studies, ranging from clinical surveys to large scale randomised trials.

In addition the Orchard OCD Registry seeks to recruit volunteers who are willing to take part in research studies. You will support the recruitment of volunteers to the registry and manage enrolment of research studies, coordinate routine management meetings related to the business of the Registry and write routine reports.

Skills and experience required
  • Experience of working in health or social care research in any environment is essential.
  • Skills in the development and management of research surveys is essential, and database experience would be preferable.
  • Understanding the implications of handling and managing sensitive personal data is important, as is experience of working across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience of clinical trials would be helpful.
  • Alongside good IT skills, knowledge of survey software is essential and working with database platforms desirable.
  • Good statistical skills are desirable, along with knowledge and understanding of research governance including GDPR and HRA ethical approvals.
Qualifications required
  • Degree (or equivalent level 6 qualification), or higher qualification in a relevant discipline.
