Job summary

Morgan Sindall Infrastructure is seeking an Assistant Cost Manager to support cost processing and management for a major National Grid upgrade framework, including the Tilbury to Norwich project. The role focuses on reporting, cost analysis, PO and GRN administration, and accruals within a hybrid working model across UK sites.

Ideal candidates will have a background in project finance for construction/infrastructure, strong Excel and COINS experience, and the ability to collaborate with wider

  • Solid understanding of purchase ledger processes.
  • Experience with COINS (or similar systems) in a construction/finance context.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the GGP finance manager and support project commercial and operational teams.
  • Perform weekly labour allocation and cost analysis.
  • Maintain purchase orders and administer plant, equipment and material GRN processes.
  • Support AFP and feeder reporting aligned with contract deadlines.
  • Generate system accruals for labour, plant, materials and charges.

Assistant Cost Manager to process and manage project costs

We are seeking a motivated and ambitious individual to join our team on the National Grid Great Grid Upgrade Framework, supporting the delivery of a diverse programme of high-profile schemes. This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone eager to develop their skills, take on increasing responsibility, and play a key part in the successful delivery of major infrastructure works. You will be working on the ATNC Tilbury to Norwich project which is part of the National Grid Great Grid Partnership (GGP), contributing to a significant programme that forms part of National Grid’s long-term investment in strengthening and modernising the UK’s energy network.

Role Responsibilities
  • Reporting into the GGP finance manager, working alongside the project commercial and operational teams
  • Weekly labour allocation and cost analysis
  • Purchase Order maintenance, administration of plant, equipment and material GRN Process
  • Call off order management
  • Maintaining the hired plant and equipment turnarounds, allocation sheets and costs on COINS
  • Purchase Ledger Invoice costing, 3-way matching, queries and Payment Practice Code compliance
  • Chairing the weekly plant and labour cost review meetings and mid-month reviews
  • Actual costs/contract equipment and labour rates reconciliations
  • Managing the project period end process
  • Application for payment (AFP) support. Providing data in line with contract deadlines and feeder reporting
  • Producing and managing generated system accruals for labour, plant, materials and charges
  • Manual accruals / journals / cost reallocations and general cost analysis
  • Ensure that the finance-cost procedures and process controls are maintained and adhered to
Skills, Experience And Qualifications
  • Experience in working in project finance within the construction and Infrastructure sector would be beneficial but not a necessity.
  • Experience using accounting systems with a solid understanding of the purchase ledger processes.
  • Experience working with COINS (or similar construction/finance systems).
  • Microsoft Office skills, Outlook, Word, Adobe and particularly Excel.
  • Ability to create excel worksheets and reports
  • Strong planning, organisation, and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Confident contribution across the project, sites, or operational areas.
  • Strong written communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining standards and ensuring specifications are met.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues to support project and operational performance.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to site offices or to attend meetings as and when required
Other Requirements
  • A full UK Driving Licence.
  • Mobility will be required as the role will include hybrid working (working from home), travelling and working from the site offices 2 days a week or as and when required. Visiting Morgan Sindall, Cooper House in Coventry
