Job summary

Southampton City Council is seeking a permanent full-time Assistant Commissioning Support Officer to join the Living and Ageing Well commissioning team. You will support transformational change, monitor performance and assist with the full commissioning cycle, including planning, service redesign and contract management, working with providers to improve outcomes for Southampton residents.

You will need a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and strong communication skills to engage with stakeholders

We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time Assistant Commissioning Support Officerto join Southampton City Council (SCC) within the commissioning team for Living and Ageing Well.

About the team:

You will be joining a commissioning team within the Council’s commissioning service to deliver transformational change and service improvement for the benefit of our residents. This is an exciting portfolio which includes leading the commissioning, service redesign and development of home care, care homes and a range of housing with care options.

It will involve working in close collaboration with social care providers, health services and the Integrated Care Board on a number of joint strategic initiatives, including the Better Care Fund and priorities in relation to hospital discharge and admission avoidance. Other key areas of work will include working closely with housing and adult social care colleagues to enhance and embed our offer of Care Technology into health and care pathways.

About the role:

TheAssistant Commissioning Support Officerfor Living and Ageing Well will have a broad and varied portfolio including supporting with transformational change and performance management of commissioned services. This will involve visiting our commissioned providers across the city to conduct monitoring meetings and review the performance and quality of services. You will play a key role in supporting the commissioners to transform commissioned services to improve outcomes for Southampton residents.

The role will be responsible for supporting commissioning staff and assisting with the whole commissioning cycle including planning and service redesign, contract management and performance. This will also include market development for example working with our Care Market Oversight team to develop the personal assistant market for people using direct payments.

About you:

We are looking for a highly motivated individual, with strong communication skills, including the ability to give constructive feedback, and work independently with providers to monitor their performance. You will need to maintain a substantial and varied workload.

You will have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of experience of in a specialist area and have an excellent working knowledge of relevant government policy in relation to the areas covered by the role.

You will have experience of monitoring performance indicators, working with other stakeholders, assisting with projects, and achieving outcomes to timescale, as well as successfully supporting service development and improving outcomes.
