Job summary

MJ Quinn seeks an Assistant Commercial Manager in Liverpool to support contract oversight and project P&L management. You will ensure smooth project operations, develop reporting to identify improvements, and work with Commercial Analysts to monitor performance.

Responsibilities include managing cash flow, variations, and queries from engineers and subcontractors, while collaborating with Operations to maintain risk controls and accurate cost reporting.

Qualifications

• Experience working within a Financial or Commercial team.
• Strong planning, organisation, and monitoring abilities.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate at all levels.
• Experience working with and analysing large data sets.
• Knowledge of Power BI would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Support the Commercial Manager in overseeing contracts and managing the project P&L.
• Process, input and validate records using IT systems.
• Create reports and analyses to drive performance and monitor trends.
• Liaise with Operations to ensure Commercial Risk Management is in place.
• Handle commercial queries from Engineers or Subcontractors and explain analyses to teams.
• Manage cash flow through cost monitoring and customer billing.
• Report on contract variations and ensure timely agreement with customers.
• Assist with ad hoc reporting as required.

Department Overview

The Commercial Department is responsible for driving the revenue and business growth of MJ Quinn. It typically includes roles that focus on billing, cost control, contract management and negotiation, partnerships, and pricing strategies whilst maintaining a strong relationship with our current sub-contractor and client base.

JOB OBJECTIVE

Here at MJ Quinn, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join the business. As Assistant Commercial Manager your duties will include supporting the Commercial Manager in overseeing contracts and managing the project P&L. You will also be responsible for ensuring that projects run smoothly and support in developing additional reporting to identify areas of improvement within the project.

Key Roles And Responsibilities

• Providing guidance to Commercial Analysts for timely performance in billing, cost, profit, and cash collection.
• Managing the processing, inputting and validation records using various IT systems.
• Creating report and analysis that will drive and monitor performance.
• Liaising with Operations to make sure Commercial Risk Management is effectively in place and followed.
• Liaising and dealing with any commercial queries from Engineers or Subcontractors.
• Being able to explain the analysis produced to Operational teams and peers.
• Management of cash flow, including via accurate cost monitoring, substantiated customer billing and assessment of subcontractor payments.
• Managing and Reporting of contract variations / DFEs (variations) and ensuring these are recorded and agreed with customers in a timely manner.
• Supporting Commercial Manager on any ad hoc reporting.

Ensuring targets and objectives set are monitored and maintained and suitably underpin financial targets.

PERSON SPECIFICAITON

• Experience working within a Financial or Commercial team.
• Strong planning, organisation, and monitoring abilities.
• Enjoy a challenge, have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate at all levels.
• Experience working with and analysing large data sets.
• Knowledge of Power BI would be an advantage.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Working Conditions: Full Time Office Based. Department Commercial Reports to Commercial Manager. Hours of Work 08:30am - 17:00pm Monday to Friday. Rate of Pay £32,000. Work Location Liverpool. Travel Requirements No. Holiday Entitlements 6.6 week per annum, inclusive of bank holidays and company shutdowns.
