Assistant Claims Manager -Motor - Personal Injury

As an Assistant Claims Manager, you will be responsible for managing a small claims team within the motor claims department and providing support to the Motor Claims Manager in the day-to-day running of the team, including handling incoming work, resource allocation, and engagement with Underwriters and other Stakeholders attached to the Motor Claims portfolio. You will proactively manage a small claims caseload and provide guidance, instruction, and clear development pathways to your direct reports.

Leading by example, you will deliver technical expertise and audit excellence for all direct reports. Demonstrate proactivity throughout the claim lifecycle for all claims, whether owned or referred.

Collaboration is key. Working with Claims Leadership, including AXA Group Management, Claims Handlers, Underwriters, Actuaries, Legal, CDAG, and other departments, you will aim to deliver the best customer experience both internally and externally. As customer expectations and business evolve, the service provided must adapt accordingly, reflecting the company's philosophy.

The successful candidate will become an integral part of the wider Motor Claims Department but will ultimately be responsible for managing a small team of Personal Injury Claim Handlers.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  1. Managing your own caseload of complex claims in accordance with global guidelines.
  2. Overseeing, guiding, and developing team members and their work portfolios, including coverage analysis, investigation, evaluation, reserving, and resolution of Motor Claims in line with GCHP.
  3. Managing and overseeing key partners, ensuring quality service across jurisdictions and compliance with contractual obligations.
  4. Stakeholder management related to the Delegated Book, including CDAG and TPA audit teams.
  5. Managing and overseeing other partners such as Adjusters, Lawyers, and experts, ensuring service levels, performance, benchmarking, and fairness to customers.
  6. Managing your own portfolio of claims and overseeing those of your team, including trend analysis, large loss reporting, Watchlist and RTM meetings, and ADR initiatives.
  7. Assisting the Motor Claims Management Team with strategic relationships with Brokers, clients, Actuaries, and Underwriters, including presentations and training seminars.
  8. Working with the Delegated team and Claims Management to meet Group Standard requirements and ensure effective implementation.
  9. Enhancing relationships with delegated partners to ensure service delivery.
  10. Reviewing and improving documentation and processes for onboarding, oversight, and removal of partners.
  11. Reporting on claim statistics and initiatives to the Leadership Team as needed.
  12. Supporting underwriting teams and partners with claim trends, marketing, and retention activities.
  13. Managing external vendor relationships by portfolio.
  14. Overseeing Enterprise Shared Services when required, including monitoring and advice to maintain high customer service levels.
  15. Maintaining reporting and controls, ensuring adherence to AXA XL Claim Alert processes, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  16. Working with Legal and handlers to identify and manage counsel, proactively managing litigation strategies for complex claims.
  17. Managing workload and resource allocation considering expertise, claim complexity, and other factors.
  18. Project managing key initiatives within the product line, ensuring timely execution.
  19. Participating in and being accountable for the Quality Review Process and process improvements.
  20. Providing excellent customer service to policyholders and brokers, and continuously seeking service improvements.
  21. Focusing on the performance and development of direct reports, including technical coaching and identifying high performers for promotion.
  22. Participating in leadership meetings and global projects as needed.
  23. Managing team absence during the Manager's absence, keeping records updated.
  24. Managing and delivering AXA Group Standards, engaging with leadership, and adapting to changing expectations, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.

You will report to the Motor Claims Manager.

We’re looking for someone with these abilities and skills:

  • ACII or Bachelor’s degree preferred but not essential.
  • Experience handling Motor Personal Injury claims of all complexities.
  • Experience with general Motor claims, including Accident Damage and Third Party Property Damage, Credit Hire.
  • Experience influencing and leading in the market.
  • Good knowledge of the UK legal framework.
  • Experience implementing new market initiatives and managing change.
  • Project management and performance delivery skills.
  • Experience conducting internal audits.
  • Ability to coach team members, manage relationships proactively, and oversee ESS, influencing to optimize results.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with underwriters and the market, including complaint handling.
  • Leadership and presentation skills for broker and client events, management meetings, and team engagements.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels.
  • Ability to organize team work effectively and meet SLAs.
  • Independent working capability with minimal supervision.
  • Continuous improvement mindset for day-to-day operations and team development.
