Job summary

Staplehurst Manor Care Home, part of Bupa, in Staplehurst near Tonbridge, Kent, is looking for an Assistant Chef on a bank, zero‑hours contract. You will help prepare fresh meals for residents, ensuring nutritional needs and dietary preferences are respected, and contribute to a warm dining experience.

You will work under HACCP/COSHH guidelines, train and guide kitchen staff, manage orders and deliveries, and assist with special events to keep meals exciting for residents.

Qualifications

• A passion for cooking with previous experience working in a fresh food kitchen and relevant hygiene certificates.
• You want to create and deliver an excellent dining experience at each meal and make our residents feel at home.
• Open to new ideas, you’ll have an innovative approach to cooking whilst always adhering to high standards.
• You’ll enjoy communicating with others and you’ll cherish the little moments with our residents, sharing your love of food with them.

Responsibilities

• Using your passion for cooking and fresh ingredients to create varied and nutritional menus in line with dietary needs and preferences of our residents.
• Putting forward ideas to deliver an excellent dining experience, helping our residents to feel at home.
• Training and managing the kitchen team in prepping, cooking and serving of food.
• Adhering to COSHH and HACCP guidelines, company policies and procedures, budgets, managing orders and deliveries.
• Catering for special events or seasonal activities, such as summer fetes, Christmas parties and birthdays (as required).
