Job summary

Healthcare Homes Holdings Limited is seeking an Assistant Chef at Olive House in Norwich. You’ll support the Head Chef, prepare nutritious meals for residents, and help keep the kitchen running smoothly.

You will cook to high standards, manage stock, assist in menu planning and stay compliant with hygiene guidelines. The role is 30 hours per week at £14.10 per hour, with alternate weekends included, in a friendly residential care setting.

Qualifications

• Experience in a professional kitchen.
• Good organisational skills.
• Knowledge of food hygiene standards.
• City and Guilds or NVQ qualifications preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Help manage the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence.
• Deliver nutritious and wholesome dishes cooked to high quality and standards.
• Manage stock control.
• Assist in leading and motivating a team.
• Support Head Chef with weekly menu planning, ordering and minimising wastage.

If you are kind, compassionate and committed, we would love for you to join our kitchen team in our lovely nursing home, Olive House, catering for 45 residents.

Olive House provides high-quality, person-centred residential and respite care in Norfolk, supporting older people in a welcoming and homely environment. Nestled in a quiet residential area, there are large, bright communal rooms providing lots of space for our residents to enjoy activities and host their guests. There is a genuine family feel among the residents and the long-standing care team.

What would a typical day look like?

• Help manage the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence
• Work to deliver nutritious and wholesome dishes cooked at the highest quality and standards
• Manage stock control
• To assist in leading and motivating a team
• Support the Head Chef with writing and planning weekly menus, ordering as well as keeping wastage to a minimum.

The successful candidate will have experience in working in a professional kitchen, have good organisational skills and knowledge of good kitchen practices and food hygiene standards. City and Guilds or NVQ qualifications are preferred but not essential as they can be provided through our Academy.
