Job summary

Cygnet Health Care is seeking an Assistant Chef for a 24-hour-per-week, 6-month fixed-term contract at Cygnet Fountains. You will assist the team in preparing balanced meals, perform basic cooking tasks, and keep the kitchen clean and safe while complying with COSHH regulations.

The role suits someone passionate about catering, with care-setting experience preferred, who communicates well and works both independently and as part of a team. DBS check is required.

Qualifications

  • Experience in catering, preferably in care settings.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork.
  • Able to work using own initiative under supervision.
  • Maintains high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Willingness to undergo enhanced DBS check.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are looking for an outstanding Assistant Chef whos passionate about food and wants to make a difference. Youll be working part time, 24 hours a week (3 x 8 hour shifts), at Cygnet Fountains, creating an excellent experience for the people in our care. Please note, this is a 6 month fixed term contract. Cygnet Fountains is a high support inpatient rehabilitation (level 2) service for men who have severe and enduring mental illness and who may have been detained under the Mental Health Act. The individuals we support come to us following multiple placement breakdowns, failed treatment programmes or stepping down from secure settings., Helping others improve and turn their lives around theres no better feeling. Your Day-to-Day
  • Assist the team in the providing balanced, appetising meals
  • Perform basic food preparation, cooking tasks & other kitchen duties
  • Wash utensils, dishes & make sure they are stored appropriately
  • Sort, store & distribute ingredients, check deliveries and assist with stock ordering
  • Maintain personal hygiene and ensure the kitchen is clean & hygienic
  • Handle, maintain & store kitchen equipment in accordance with Cygnet procedures
  • Use chemicals in line with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations.

  • Passionate about catering, preferably with experience within a care setting
  • Enthusiastic, keen to learn and an active team member
  • Polite & professional, with a positive attitude at all times
  • An excellent communicator who can liaise with people at all levels
  • Able to work on your own initiative & under supervision
  • Diligent & take pride in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness.
