Job Introduction
We are looking for an Assistant Buyer to join the busy Buying team at Card Factory to work on our card range. Our team takes pride in finding the right products for our customers at the right price. This opportunity is available on a 9-month fixed-term contract basis.

As part of this role, you will be required to do regular competitive shops; therefore, a driving licence is preferred.

You will support Buyers, work closely with Design and Merchandise Planning, and collaborate with key stakeholders across the business. This role is crucial in supporting the growth of Sales and Profitability for Card Factory.

We operate a hybrid working model, combining some days in our Wakefield Support Centre (approx. 3 per week) with some days working from home, depending on business demand.

Role Responsibilities

• Contribute to product development ensuring it meets customer requirements (pricing, design, trend) and aligns with strategy and financial targets;
• Support Buyers in decision-making, managing risk, and driving sales and profitability;
• Analyse and evaluate the performance of responsible product areas;
• Work with Buyers to negotiate effectively to drive sales and profitability;
• Build relationships within the Commercial team and with other stakeholders;
• Manage communications with suppliers, including those with limited English;
• Raise concerns proactively to Buyers;
• Manage a product portfolio, follow critical paths, and resolve issues promptly;
• Conduct market research, generate product ideas, and compare costs;
• Assist in managing the range plan with accurate data to inform decisions;
• Check samples against specifications, working with QC;
• Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver the product strategy.

The Ideal Candidate

• Some purchasing experience in a similar role;
• Experience in gifting, product, or fashion environments is beneficial;
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal);
• Organized and structured approach;
• Good time management skills and ability to meet deadlines;
• Innovative with a proactive attitude;
• Attention to detail.
