Job summary

KCR in Middlesbrough is seeking an ambitious Assistant Accountant to join a busy finance team and support the production of accurate monthly management accounts across multiple entities.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will assist with month-end close, posting journals, balance sheet reconciliations, and maintaining the fixed asset register, while developing your career in management accounting with clear progression opportunities.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of month-end processes.
• Ability to work confidently to trial balance stage.
• Good Excel skills and experience using accounting software.
• Organised and detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
• Ability to manage deadlines and prioritise workload effectively.
• Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts to trial balance stage
• Post and reconcile journals
• Accruals and prepayments
• Complete monthly bank reconciliations
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations and maintain supporting schedules
• Maintain the fixed asset register and process depreciation journals
• Support cashflow monitoring and reporting activities
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
• Ensure purchase ledger and sales ledger transactions are accurately reflected within the accounts
• Assist in maintaining robust financial controls and procedures
• Provide ad hoc support to the Finance Manager and wider finance team
