Trek Bikes in Milton Keynes is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team. You will support month-end reporting, accounts payable, treasury and compliance while learning across a broad range of finance activities.

This is a proactive, detail‑oriented role that offers growth as accounting knowledge expands. The role is hybrid in Milton Keynes with the chance to develop accounting expertise and pursue a professional qualification.

Qualifications

• Interest in pursuing a professional accounting qualification is beneficial.
• Experience in finance or accounting is advantageous but not essential.

Ready to start your journey with us?*## Job Description**The Role****Position:** Assistant Accountant**Department:** Finance**Location:** Milton Keynes with a hybrid working model**Job Type:** Full time, Permanent**Reports to:** UK+ Finance Director**About The Role** This is a developing accounting role providing broad exposure across month-end reporting, accounts payable, treasury, compliance and general finance activities. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Accountants and wider Finance team, gradually taking greater ownership of accounting processes as their knowledge and confidence develop. The role would suit a proactive and curious individual with strong attention to detail who is keen to broaden their accounting experience.**Key Responsibilities****Month End & Financial Reporting*** Support the Retail month-end close, progressively taking on greater responsibility for accruals, prepayments, depreciation, foreign exchange, intercompany and other accounting journals.* Prepare and maintain supporting schedules and balance sheet reconciliations for our Retail stores and Wholesale, investigating reconciling items.* Carry out month-end P&L review and variance analysis for the Retail stores, preparing clear commentary on material movements and supporting Wholesale reporting where required.* Support annual budgeting, forecasting, year-end close and statutory reporting activities.* Maintain appropriate journal support and provide schedules, reconciliations and evidence for internal and external audit requirements.**Accounts Payable*** Support the India shared-service Accounts Payable team, developing knowledge of market-specific Basware, Concur and payment processes.* Perform supplier payment runs, remittances and the resolution of supplier payment enquiries.* Review invoices and employee expenses for coding accuracy, policy compliance and adherence to financial controls.* Drive corporate credit card compliance, including monitoring overdue submissions and administering card holds and reinstatements where required.**Treasury & Cash Management*** Manage and reconcile wholesale and retail bank accounts through Kyriba, investigating and clearing reconciling items.* Maintain actual cash positions within the global cash forecast and support cash-flow reporting.* Support bank account administration, payment investigations and other day-to-day treasury activities.* Investigate unidentified receipts, customer payment queries and banking discrepancies across wholesale and retail operations, escalating more complex matters where appropriate.**Compliance & Wider Team Support*** Support the preparation and reconciliation of VAT, PSA, Bikehub and PPT returns.* Complete Duty reconciliations to support accuracy, alongside other ad hoc compliance activities as required.* Provide support to the Accounts Receivable team on CRM-related activities and issue resolution where required.* Assist the wider finance team with ad hoc accounting, reporting and project activities, gaining exposure to a broad range of finance processes.**About You*** An interest in working towards a professional accounting qualification (AAT, ACA, ACCA or CIMA) would be advantageous.* Previous experience in a finance or accounting role would be advantageous but is not essential.* Understanding of accounting principles, including accruals, prepayments, fixed assets and reconciliations, would be advantageous but is not essential.* Strong attention to detail and analytical skills, with the ability to investigate issues and resolve discrepancies.* Well organised, able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.* Confident communicator and team player, able to build effective working relationships across finance, suppliers and shared service teams.* Proactive, curious and eager to learn, with a willingness to develop new skills, systems knowledge and accounting expertise.* Takes ownership of problems and uses initiative, research and critical thinking to develop solutions before escalating where appropriate.If you don’t meet all the criteria but believe you have great value to add then let us know in a cover letter why your skillset is right for the role! **Benefits Here At Trek*** We operate on a hybrid approach with 60% of our time in the office* 25 days annual leave per year, plus bank holidays* Enhanced family friendly policies* Discounted employee purchase scheme on bikes, parts and accessories* 24/7 employee assistance program and counselling services* 24/7 virtual GP services* Healthcare cashback scheme* Gym membership discounts and discounts on other health and wellbeing brands* Annual paid time off for charity work* Death in service benefit* Cycle to work scheme* Salary Sacrifice EV vehicle scheme If you have any particular requirements in respect of the recruitment or interview process, please mention this in your application and we will be happy to support you.
