Job summary

RGML is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join the finance team and establish a solid financial control foundation across RGML’s multi-entity group. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will own core ledger processes, assist month-end close, and support the Management Accountant in delivering accurate management information.

This role offers development potential, a collaborative team, and ACCA study support to help you grow your accounting career within a fast-growing business.

Qualifications

• AAT Level 4 qualification.
• Experience in an assistant accountant or similar role, contributing to month-end close.
• Solid understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and VAT basics.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of complete entity accounts from bookkeeping up to Trial Balance.
• Process and review purchase and sales ledger transactions ensuring accuracy and consistency across the group.
• Play a key part in the month-end close, assisting the Management Accountant with routine journals.
• Complete bank reconciliations across multi-currency accounts and support balance sheet reconciliations including accruals and prepayments.
• Reconcile intercompany balances across Rhino, Oceros and Halo.
• Maintain the fixed asset register and depreciation schedules, ensuring financial controls are followed.
• Support the Finance Assistant as they progress through studies and collaborate with the team.

The Role

We're looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our finance team and help provide a solid foundation of financial control across RGML.

Reporting to the Finance Director, you'll take ownership of core ledger processes and reconciliations, contribute directly to month-end close, and support our Management Accountant in producing accurate management information.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Taking ownership of complete entity accounts from bookkeeping up to Trial Balance.
• Process and review purchase and sales ledger transactions ensuring they are processed accurately and consistently across the group.
• Play a key part in the month-end close, assisting the Management Accountant in routine journals helping deliver timely management accounts.
• Complete bank reconciliations across multi-currency accounts and support balance sheet reconciliations, including accruals and prepayments ahead of review.
• Work alongside the team to reconcile intercompany balances across Rhino, Oceros and Halo.
• Maintain the fixed asset register and depreciation schedules, and make sure financial controls are followed consistently.
• Support our Finance Assistant, where required as they progress through their own studies. Working closely with all members of the team.

What We’re Looking For

• AAT qualified (Level 4).
• Strong communication, both written and verbal.
• Demonstrable experience in an Assistant Accountant or Senior Finance Assistant role, including contributing to the month-end close process.
• A solid understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls, with a working knowledge of VAT and basic tax principles.
• Strong Excel skills, including formulas, and practical experience with accounting software including sage 50 accounts.
• A curious, detail-focused approach: you dig into reconciling items rather than accepting a balancing figure, manage your own workload to deadlines, and are confident explaining figures to non-finance colleagues.
• Experience working within a multi-entity or group structure is desirable.
