An overview of the role
The Assistant Group Financial Accountant provides support to the Group Accounting Manager in the delivery of accurate and timely group financial reporting, statutory accounts, tax and regulatory reporting across the Group. The role involves preparing financial information, maintaining key reporting schedules, and supporting the group consolidation and statutory reporting processes across the Group’s legal entities. The position also provides exposure to private equity reporting, treasury activities, VAT and corporation tax compliance, and regulatory reporting.
Your key responsibilities
Group Reporting & Consolidation
- Support the monthly group reporting process by preparing journals, reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Prepare information used in the monthly group consolidation process.
- Assist with intercompany reconciliations and investigate differences between Group entities.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly reporting packs and supporting analysis.
- Support the review of financial results by investigating variances and unusual movements.
Management Accounts
- Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts for Group companies.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and investigate outstanding items.
- Post routine month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments and other accounting adjustments.
- Maintain fixed asset registers and ensure records are kept up to date.
- Assist with foreign currency reconciliations and month-end adjustments.
Statutory Accounts & Audit
- Assist with the preparation of statutory accounts for Group entities.
- Prepare supporting schedules, reconciliations and financial information required for year-end reporting.
- Support the external audit process by providing requested information and documentation.
Assist with maintaining and updating key reporting schedules, including:
- Revenue recognition
- Lease accounting
- Loan and interest schedules
- Intercompany reconciliations
- Other schedules required for group reporting and financial disclosures
Private Equity & Treasury Reporting
- Assist with investor reporting submissions.
- Support cash reporting and bank covenant reporting requirements.
Tax & Compliance
- Assist with the preparation of Group VAT returns and supporting reconciliations.
- Gather information and prepare supporting schedules for corporation tax compliance.
- Support the preparation of R&D tax credit information
Regulatory Reporting
- Assist with the preparation of information required for FCA regulatory reporting.
- Maintain supporting documentation for regulatory submissions.
- Complete ONS surveys and other finance-related reporting requirements as needed.
Process Improvement & Support
- Support improvements to financial reporting processes and documentation.
- Assist in maintaining accurate and efficient reporting schedules and working papers.
- Provide ad hoc financial analysis and support to the Group Accounting Manager where required.
Requirements
What you'll need to succeed
Qualifications
- Qualified/part qualified / studying towards an accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA
- AAT qualified, part qualified or equivalent finance experience would be considered
- Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related subject would be desirable but not essential
Experience
- Previous experience working within a finance or accounting environment.
- Good understanding of basic accounting principles and month-end processes.
- Experience preparing account reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Exposure to management accounts and financial reporting would be advantageous.
- Experience supporting statutory accounts preparation and external audits would be beneficial.
- Experience working with multiple entities, intercompany reconciliations or group reporting would be desirable but not essential.
- Comfortable using financial systems and Microsoft Excel to analyse and manage financial information.

- Strong attention to detail with a methodical approach to work
