Assistant Accountant Role at Trial Balance Consulting

Trial Balance Consulting has been exclusively engaged by a new client, a highly successful and bespoke manufacturing and retail business operating across multiple locations in the southwest. Due to continued growth, the company is strengthening its finance team with the recruitment of an experienced Assistant Accountant.

The role will work closely with the company’s Finance Director and will essentially act as a second in command, bridging the responsibilities between Assistant Accountants, Finance Managers, and Bookkeepers. This is a broad role, and the successful candidate will take a lead in overseeing the day-to-day finances of the company. Key responsibilities include:

1. Manage and support the finance functions for multiple group entities using Sage 200
2. Monthly bookkeeping
3. Lead the accounts payable and receivable functions and organize supplier payment runs
4. Submission of confirmation statements for multiple group entities
5. VAT reporting and submission
6. Journal entries
7. Cashflow forecasting
8. Bank reconciliations across multiple accounts
9. Support the FD on financial projects and year-end procedures
10. Liaise with external stakeholders including auditors and banks

We seek an experienced Assistant Accountant, Bookkeeper, or Finance Manager with at least 3 years of end-to-end accounting experience. Candidates may be part or fully professionally qualified (AAT) or qualified by experience. Previous experience in a construction or manufacturing setting would be desirable but is not essential. Good knowledge of industry-standard cloud-based accounting software and MS Excel is required. The successful candidate will manage a small team; previous supervisory experience is advantageous, but a positive attitude towards team development is also valued.
