Job summary

Thames Water is seeking a Wastewater Asset Planner to own and drive the plan for a London wastewater system. You will work with cross-functional teams to prioritise interventions, update site plans, and align long-term input for regulatory Price Review planning.

The role focuses on asset health, capital maintenance, and delivering value to customers and the environment. The role requires strong analytical skills, knowledge of asset management, and excellent communication across stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Develop and update integrated site plans, identifying interdependencies and sequencing interventions.
• Gather long-term strategic input from Asset Strategy for Price Review 29 planning.
• Prioritise projects for current and future AMPs with clear technical scope for submissions to gates.
• Create and manage system-wide plans across wastewater network, treatment and pumping.
• Deliver on Capital maintenance plans and ensure value in relation to asset health and incentives.
• Monitor asset condition, maintenance standards and forecast failure rates.
• Support external engagement to explain and align with strategic plans.

Based in Hammersmith, this full-time Asset Planner post sits within Pertemps Thames Water, supporting the development and upkeep of plans that strengthen operational performance, resilience and environmental results. The successful candidate will take ownership of a wastewater system plan for London, shaping regulatory improvements and community outcomes. Core duties include analysing asset information, forecasting investment needs, and collaborating with engineering and operational colleagues to prioritise works. Applicants should demonstrate strong analytical skills, familiarity with asset management principles, and the ability to communicate complex findings clearly. The position offers a salary between £46,000 and £55,000 per annum, dependent on experience. This role contributes directly to protecting natural resources and delivering lasting value for customers and the environment. What you’ll be doing as a Wastewater Asset Planner

You will own the plan for one of our London systems and stay involved in the plans as they are delivered through the sponsorship model.

• Lead the development of integrated site plans by facilitating cross-functional collaboration, identifying interdependencies and determining the optimal sequencing of interventions.
• Continuously update and maintain comprehensive site and system-level plans, adapting to project changes and reflecting evolving priorities across the asset lifecycle.
• Gather long-term strategic input from Asset Strategy to inform Price Review 29 planning and ensure alignment with future needs.
• Develop and prioritise projects for current and future 5-yearly Asset Management Periods (AMPs), incorporating engineering insights and defining technical scope for robust submissions to decision gates.
• Create and manage system-wide plans across wastewater network, treatment and pumping—addressing capital maintenance, growth, enhancement, and quality goals.
• Deliver on Capital maintenance plans and efficient spend in relation to asset health and supporting our Outcome Delivery Incentives.
• Monitor and evaluate asset condition, maintenance standards and anticipated failure rates.
• Support external engagement activities, helping stakeholders understand and align with our strategic plans.

Base Location: Hybrid - Base location is flexible across the north London region

Working Pattern: Full-time, Monday–Friday. (36 hours per week)

What you should bring to the role:

• Knowledge of asset management, engineering best practices and planning/forecasting.
• Confident communicator who builds strong relationships across teams and external stakeholders.
• Analytical and confident with numbers, able to communicate complex ideas clearly and simply.
• Proactive, can influence across all levels and consider different views.
• Able to work flexibly across multiple workstreams, responding to changes in focus.
• Has a good understanding of risk management.

Additional skills and experiences would be great to have/bring:

• Knowledgeable about wastewater systems and external impacts.
• Professional membership of an engineering, environmental or asset management organisation is an advantage.
• Ideally, understand regulatory processes, such as price reviews or annual returns.
