Job summary

Thames Water in London is seeking a Wastewater Asset Planner to own and deliver integrated asset plans for one London system, aligning with AMP cycles and regulatory priorities. This role focuses on asset health, capital maintenance and performance outcomes, with hybrid working and a clear path to impact.

You will lead cross-functional collaboration, develop long-term plans, monitor condition and risk, and support stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and prioritise 5-year asset submissions with robust scope.
  • Create system-wide plans for wastewater networks, treatment and pumping.
  • Deliver capital maintenance plans aligned to asset health metrics.
  • Monitor asset condition and maintenance standards; assess failure rates.
  • Support external engagement to align stakeholders with strategic plans.

What you’ll be doing as a Wastewater Asset Planner

You will own the plan for one of our London systems and stay involved in the plans as they are delivered through the sponsorship model.

  • Lead the development of integrated site plans by facilitating cross-functional collaboration, identifying interdependencies and determining the optimal sequencing of interventions.
  • Continuously update and maintain comprehensive site and system-level plans, adapting to project changes and reflecting evolving priorities across the asset lifecycle.
  • Gather long-term strategic input from Asset Strategy to inform Price Review 29 planning and ensure alignment with future needs.
  • Develop and prioritise projects for current and future 5-yearly Asset Management Periods (AMPs), incorporating engineering insights and defining technical scope for robust submissions to decision gates.
  • Create and manage system-wide plans across wastewater network, treatment and pumping—addressing capital maintenance, growth, enhancement, and quality goals.
  • Deliver on Capital maintenance plans and efficient spend in relation to asset health and supporting our Outcome Delivery Incentives.
  • Monitor and evaluate asset condition, maintenance standards and anticipated failure rates.
  • Support external engagement activities, helping stakeholders understand and align with our strategic plans.
Base Location

Hybrid - Base location is flexible across the north London region

Working Pattern

Full-time, Monday–Friday. (36 hours per week)

What you should bring to the role

The essential criteria to help you succeed in this role are:

  • Knowledge of asset management, engineering best practices and planning/forecasting.
  • Confident communicator who builds strong relationships across teams and external stakeholders.
  • Analytical and confident with numbers, able to communicate complex ideas clearly and simply.
  • Proactive, can influence across all levels and consider different views.
  • Able to work flexibly across multiple workstreams, responding to changes in focus.
  • Has a good understanding of risk management.
Additional skills and experiences would be great to have/bring
  • Knowledgeable about wastewater systems and external impacts.
  • Professional membership of an engineering, environmental or asset management organisation is an advantage.
  • Ideally, understand regulatory processes, such as price reviews or annual returns.
