Job summary

National Grid Ventures Interconnectors is seeking an Asset Engineer to manage and maintain critical interconnector assets at the IFA1 site in Sellindge. You will develop asset strategies, drive maintenance excellence and ensure safety, reliability and regulatory alignment across the portfolio.

You will collaborate with site teams and OEMs, translate technical guidance into actionable plans, and maintain asset records while promoting continuous improvement and data integrity in Maximo.

About The Role

National Grid Ventures Interconnectors is playing a critical role in connecting the UK\'s energy system with neighbouring countries, helping to deliver a more secure, resilient and low‑carbon energy future. Through our portfolio of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) interconnectors, we enable the import and export of electricity, supporting the UK\'s transition to net zero while developing the infrastructure needed to meet future energy demands.

We\'re looking for an Asset Engineer to join our Asset & Engineering team. In this role, you\'ll be responsible for the effective management, performance and maintenance of critical interconnector assets, helping to ensure exceptional levels of reliability, availability and operational resilience across our portfolio.

Working closely with site‑based and central teams, you\'ll use your technical expertise to develop asset strategies, drive maintenance excellence, improve asset health and support continuous improvement initiatives. You\'ll play a key role in ensuring our assets perform safely, efficiently and in line with all regulatory and operational requirements.

This position is based at our IFA1 site in Sellindge so candidates would be ideally be based within a hours commute.

What you\'ll do
As An Asset Engineer, You Will
  • Deliver asset health assessments and asset management activities in line with National Grid policies and standards.
  • Develop and implement asset maintenance strategies to maximise asset performance, reliability and lifespan.
  • Translate OEM technical guidance and engineering standards into practical maintenance plans, work instructions and Maximo task lists.
  • Produce and manage maintenance plans and outage scopes to ensure maintenance activities are completed safely and effectively.
  • Support the management of asset defects, equipment failures and technical investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Analyse asset performance data and provide recommendations to improve reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Work collaboratively with site operations teams, engineering specialists and external partners to drive best practice across the interconnector portfolio.
  • Coordinate with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) on warranty, performance and asset integrity matters.
  • Maintain accurate asset records and support continual improvement of asset data within Maximo.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, compliance and continuous improvement across all engineering activities.
What you\'ll need
  • Experience in engineering and asset management, ideally within the utilities, energy, infrastructure or industrial sectors.
  • Strong understanding of asset management principles and maintenance strategies.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems or other critical infrastructure assets.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation, engineering drawings and OEM manuals.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to make informed technical decisions.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience using asset management systems such as Maximo or similar platforms.
  • Understanding of risk management processes and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • HNC in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
What you\'ll get

A competitive salary between £47,442.00 - £56,173.50 per annum– dependent on capability. As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
