Job summary

Gap Personnel on behalf of a Leeds-based manufacturer is seeking an Assembly Technician/Mechanical Fitter. The role involves assembling large electrical and mechanical components to drawing specs and ensuring high quality output in a modern facility.

Ideal candidates have at least three years in similar settings, strong mechanical skills, and the ability to read engineering drawings. Monday–Friday rotating shifts, with good pay and development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in assembly, manufacturing, or mechanical fitting.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and instructions.
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills with attention to quality.

The Role

As an Assembly Technician, you will play a key role in the assembly and manufacture of high-quality equipment, ensuring products meet the highest standards of workmanship and performance.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of three years' experience in a similar assembly, manufacturing, or mechanical fitting environment and demonstrate strong technical and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble large electrical and mechanical components to specification.
  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, technical documents, and assembly instructions.
  • Use overhead cranes to safely move and position components and assemblies.
  • Ensure all work is completed to the highest quality standards.
  • Follow health and safety procedures and company policies at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the production team.
Working Hours
Rotating Shift Pattern (Monday to Friday):
Week 1
  • Monday to Friday: 6:00am - 2:00pm
Week 2
  • Monday to Thursday: 12:30pm - 10:00pm

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in assembly, mechanical fitting, or manufacturing engineering.
  • Experience operating overhead cranes (up to 120 tonnes preferred).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and practical engineering skills.
  • The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • A strong focus on health and safety.
  • A positive attitude, reliability, and a strong work ethic.
