Job description

Job Title : Assembly Supervisor

About the Role : We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assembly Supervisor to join our dynamic team within the Assembly Department. This is an exciting opportunity to be a key part of a thriving manufacturing environment, overseeing the efficient and safe production of machine assemblies. The successful candidate will work closely with the department manager to ensure smooth operations, meet production targets, and maintain high standards of health, safety, and quality control. This role offers a chance to make a real impact within a world-class manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Leadership & Supervision: Lead and motivate a team of assembly workers, providing clear guidance and direction to ensure that daily and weekly targets are met. Foster a positive and productive working environment.
  2. Production Planning: Collaborate with the department manager to develop and implement weekly plans, setting clear targets and milestones to ensure the smooth and timely delivery of assemblies. Ensure production schedules are met without compromising on quality.
  3. Capacity Planning: Accurately assess and plan capacity within your designated area, ensuring that production resources (e.g., labour, materials, equipment) are utilised effectively to meet assembly goals.
  4. Daily Reporting: Regularly monitor production performance and report any issues or delays that could potentially affect the timely delivery of machine assemblies. Take proactive steps to address any challenges that arise.
  5. Budget Management: Monitor and control departmental budgets, ensuring that costs are kept within approved limits. Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives where possible without affecting quality or productivity.
  6. Health & Safety Compliance: Take responsibility for ensuring that all health, safety, and environmental protocols are adhered to within the assembly area. Regularly review and update risk assessments, ensuring that staff are adequately trained and all safety procedures are followed.
  7. Staff Development: Oversee the development and training of assembly staff, ensuring that training plans are up-to-date, relevant, and reflect the needs of the department. Support the ongoing growth of team members through coaching, mentorship, and Kaizen (continuous improvement) initiatives.
  8. Cross-Department Communication: Ensure clear and effective communication between your team and other departments, fostering a collaborative environment that ensures timely supply and delivery to assembly areas.
  9. Continuous Improvement: Lead and engage the team in continuous improvement initiatives, promoting a culture of innovation and operational excellence. Actively encourage team members to contribute ideas for process improvements.
  10. Risk Management & Compliance: Ensure that all risk assessments, health and safety protocols, and environmental procedures are up-to-date and that all staff have access to the relevant information. Take immediate action when necessary to mitigate any risks or hazards.
  11. Quality Control & Standards: Ensure the highest standards of quality control are maintained within your team. Regularly check and ensure that machine assemblies meet the required specifications before they are sent out to customers.
Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

  • Proven Leadership Experience: You must have a proven track record in leading teams and achieving deliverables in key areas such as Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and People (SQDCP).
  • Proficiency in ERP & Microsoft Applications: Strong working knowledge of ERP systems and Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is essential for managing workflows, reporting, and communication.
  • Can-Do Attitude: A proactive and positive approach to overcoming challenges and delivering results.
  • Team Leadership Experience: Prior experience in a supervisory or team leader role, preferably in a manufacturing or assembly environment, with a strong focus on operational excellence.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Leadership Qualification or Relevant Experience: A formal leadership qualification (e.g., ILM, NVQ in Management) would be advantageous but is not a requirement. Proven experience in leading teams to success is key.
