Job summary

Academics Ltd in Woking is seeking an Aspiring Child Counsellor/Learning Support Assistant to support pupils with SEN, including ASD. Training and CPD are provided while you gain practical experience in a special school setting.

The role involves assisting teachers, delivering 1:1 and small group support, and building positive relationships with students. GCSEs in English and Maths are required, and a psychology/criminology/social science degree is beneficial. DPS checks may be required.

Qualifications

  • Experience with SEN or learning support is advantageous but not essential; training and CPD provided.
  • Right to work in the UK is required.
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain) where appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the class teacher with the learning experience

Aspiring Child Counsellor - Woking

This Aspiring Child Counsellor/Learning Support Assistant role will give you experience working at a special school in Woking catering for with pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and many with ASD and other associated needs.

A common feature for many children and young people with special educational needs is marginalisation and disadvantage. With this Aspiring Child Counsellor/LSA role in Woking, you will be instrumental in providing consistency, and equipping children and young people with tools to ensure they feel safe, secure, empowered, and believe that they can succeed in life.

This is a challenging Aspiring Child Counsellor/Learning Support Assistant role and any previous experience in a relevant field would be advantageous, but is not essential. Training, support and CPD is required in order for you to perform your duties and to ensure safeguarding of all students.

Ideal for a Criminology, Psychology, or Sociology graduates, this role will give you excellent practical experience with SEN students in a relevant field, before you take your next step.

Job role and responsibilities for Aspiring Child Counsellor/Learning Support Assistant:
  • Assist the class teacher with the learning experience

  • Ability to build trusted and effective relationships with the pupils
  • Willing to do 1:1 and small group support and work with pupils
  • Follow the safeguarding guidelines and implement them in the classroom

  • Needs to attend staff meetings and complete relevant CPD
  • Able to commute to Woking

**Start date September, trial days taking place to ensure the role and school is right for you

**Excellent on-site training, support and CPD is provided

**£93-£105 per day, Mon-Fri, 08:30 to 15:30, PAYE, term time only

**No previous experience is required

**GCSE in English and Maths

**If you have a Psychology / Criminology / Social Science degree, it's an excellent use of your degree

**You MUST have right to work in the UK in order to apply - no Visa sponsorship

Candidates registering with Academics Ltd will need to have or apply for an Enhanced DBS and/or overseas police check where appropriate
