Do You Have the Compassion and Commitment to Support Children with Autism? If so, GSL Education are looking for a dedicated ASD Teaching Assistant in Weymouth to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a specialist or mainstream educational setting.

About the School

Designed for children who face challenges in traditional school environments, this setting provides a nurturing and adaptable approach to education. With both primary and secondary phases, the provision focuses on practical skills and personal development—equipping students for life beyond the classroom with confidence and resilience.

Your key Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
  • Support the class teacher with implementing EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans).
  • Use visual aids, structured routines, and clear communication techniques to support understanding.
  • Encourage students' independence, confidence, and social skills.
  • Assist with sensory and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Monitor student progress and behaviour, reporting regularly to the SENCO or class teacher.

The Successful Candidate should have:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with Autism is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of ASD-specific strategies such as PECS, TEACCH, or sensory integration approaches.
  • Excellent communication and empathy skills.
  • A patient, calm, and adaptable approach to working with neurodiverse pupils.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in SEN or Autism Awareness would be an advantage.

To Work with GSL Education as an ASD Teaching Assistant, You Must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from the last two years.
  • Have an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service or be willing to apply for a new one through GSL Education.
