Job summary

Supply Desk is seeking a proactive Learning Support Assistant to support secondary students with ASC in a Watford area school. The role involves one-to-one and small-group help, assisting students to access the curriculum and participate in class activities, and promoting independence and social communication skills.

Applicants should be patient, empathetic and able to build positive relationships with students, colleagues and parents.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people
• Experience supporting students with ASC or additional learning needs is desirable
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Patient, calm, caring and empathetic approach
• Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with students

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small-group learning support to secondary students with ASC
• Support students to access the curriculum and participate fully in classroom activities
• Help students develop independence, confidence and social communication skills
• Support students with transitions, routines, emotional regulation and changes to their environment
• Use appropriate strategies to support individual communication and sensory needs
• Work closely with teachers and support staff to implement individual learning and support strategies
• Monitor and report on students' progress, behaviour and wellbeing
• Encourage positive behaviour and maintain a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment
• Support students during break times, lunch periods and wider school activities where required
• Contribution to extra-curricular activities and after-school clubs
• Cooperation with colleagues in order to deliver the best possible outcomes
