About The Role

This is a great opportunity to join a high-performing Development Management team in a newly created role, part of our Planning Service transformation.

As Deputy Team Leader, you’ll support our two Area Planning Team Leaders in managing the area-based planning teams. You’ll handle a varied caseload, from household applications to complex major developments.

You’ll manage complex pre-application enquiries and represent the Council at appeals. You’ll also line manage up to three staff, supporting them through regular one-to-ones and case reviews. You’ll take part in recruitment and performance management, with support from your Team Leader.

The role includes signing off planning decisions under the Council’s Scheme of Delegation and presenting applications at Planning Committee.

About You

You’ll need:

  • A degree in Town & Country Planning or a related field (e.g. geography, construction, architecture)
  • RTPI membership (or be working towards it)
  • Strong experience handling strategic planning applications in local government
  • Team management skills and the ability to work under pressure
  • Good knowledge of planning legislation and policy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A full UK driving licence is essential
