Job summary

Assystem in Warrington is seeking an Area Engineering Manager to lead a multi-disciplinary team and drive Stage 3 Define onwards, aligned with schedule and cost. The role involves steering Stage 2 appraisal, producing the Stage 3 preliminary design, and performing design assurance activities under a Risk-Based framework.

You will manage DSA teams, coordinate resources, interface with project discipline leads and site clients, and contribute to Stage 4 estimates while working with construction,

Qualifications

• Engineering background with delivery across full lifecycle.
• Experience in regulated, quality-assured environments (nuclear preferred).
• Knowledge of governing laws and standards in nuclear projects.
• Experience with system engineering and project estimation/scheduling.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Stage 3 Define phase onwards in line with project schedule and cost.
• Drive teams to optimise Stage 2 Appraise and select a single solution and produce Stage 3 preliminary design.
• Complete preliminary design assurance activities per Risk-Based Assurance Strategy.
• Act as Area Engineering Manager leading multi-discipline teams for estimating, scheduling, and design deliverables.
• Manage the DSA teams in the production of deliverables.
• Identify and allocate additional resource demand to meet deliverables against schedule.
• Interface with other Project Discipline Leads within the project(s).
• Engage and interface with site clients and stakeholders.
• Support Stage 4 delivery estimates and supplier engagement in Define phase.
• Collaborate with integrated project team across construction, commissioning, pre-ops, human factors, and clients.

Job Description

Area Engineering Manager

Warrington

Contract (Inside IR35) or Permanent

To lead and direct a multi-disciplinary engineering team to:

• Deliver the Stage 3 Define phase onwards in line with agreed project schedule and cost
• Drive engineering teams to optimise the Stage 2 Appraise and select a single preferred solution, and produce a Stage 3 Preliminary Design
• Complete preliminary design assurance activities in line with the agreed Risk-Based Assurance Strategy
• Act as AEM, leading multidiscipline teams responsible for estimating, scheduling, forecasting, and producing agreed design deliverables
• Manage the DSA teams in the production of deliverables
• Identify and allocate additional resource demand where required to ensure all deliverables can be originated and checked in accordance with project schedule dates
• Interface with other Project Discipline Leads within the project(s)
• Engage and interface with site clients and stakeholders
• Support the production of Stage 4 delivery estimates and schedule, with input into the commercial engagement of suppliers in the Define phase
• Work collaboratively with the fully integrated project team—including construction, commissioning, pre-ops, human factors, and client stakeholders to ensure functional requirements are met (Constructability, Commissionability, HAZCON, conventional safety, environmental)

Qualifications

• Engineering background with a proven record of successful delivery, including recent roles influencing professional engineers and guiding technical personnel
• Significant experience in an engineering design environment, with engineering knowledge as a key attribute and proven project delivery across the full project lifecycle
• Recent experience within a regulated and quality-assured system (preferably nuclear), where professional engineering judgement was key
• Knowledge and understanding of governing laws, regulations, and standards for the nuclear industry (equivalent experience from other industries will be considered)
• Experience with Project System Engineering and the system engineering approach to design
• Familiarity with NEC3 contract terms and conditions
• Experience in the delivery of projects related to cooling systems and CE&I power distribution

Ability to obtain SC Clearance or above Ability to obtain P1 Pass Minimum Monitored Worker
