Job summary

NHS Blood and Transplant is seeking an Area Session Sister / Charge Nurse to lead blood donation teams across the Oxford area. You will provide clinical leadership, ensure donors receive safe, high-quality care, and drive performance and quality across sessions.

Based at Oxford Donor Centre, you will work 75 hours per fortnight on 9.5-hour shifts, including weekends and bank holidays, and travel within the assigned area while guiding teams and maintaining regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development and continued learning.
• Experience of managing clinical environments within a regulatory framework (BSQR, GMP).
• Valid driving licence permitting travel within the UK.
• Willingness to travel across an agreed geographical area and work irregular hours.

Responsibilities

• Lead donor-facing teams to deliver a safe, high-quality donation experience.
• Guide donor assessment and eligibility decisions and manage adverse events.
• Coach, mentor and develop colleagues through feedback and training.
• Drive quality and regulatory compliance across donor sessions.
• Analyse performance information and respond to issues to meet objectives.
• Act as a visible clinical leader and role model, reflecting NHSBT values.
• Build relationships with donors, colleagues and stakeholders.
