Job summary

Architectural Technologist

Wimborne, Dorset

The Role

I am looking for an experienced Architectural Technologist to join the technical team, within this qualitative housebuilder.

This is a hands-on role for someone with a strong understanding of residential design and technical delivery who can take projects from the planning design stage through detailed technical information and into construction.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Planning, Land, Commercial, Construction and Sales teams, as well as external architects, engineers and consultants, ensuring designs are practical, compliant, commercially sensible and buildable on site.

The role would particularly suit someone currently working within an architectural practice, residential consultancy or housebuilder who would like greater involvement in the complete development process.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and develop detailed residential architectural drawings and construction information.
• Produce working drawings, construction details and technical packages for housing developments.
• Develop planning layouts and approved schemes into coordinated technical designs.
• Ensure drawings comply with current Building Regulations, planning requirements, warranty standards and relevant technical guidance.
• Coordinate information from structural engineers, civil engineers, M&E consultants and other specialist disciplines.
• Review consultant drawings and identify design clashes, inconsistencies or buildability issues.
• Work with the Commercial and Construction teams to ensure designs are practical and commercially efficient.
• Assist with developing and refining house types and construction details.
• Incorporate site-specific planning conditions and technical requirements into working drawing packages.
• Respond to technical queries arising from construction sites.
• Attend design, technical and project meetings where required.
• Maintain accurate drawing registers, revisions and technical documentation.
• Liaise with Building Control, warranty providers, consultants, suppliers and statutory authorities.
• Support the Technical team throughout the development process from planning approval through construction and completion.

Experience and Background

The successful candidate is likely to have:

• Experience as an Architectural Technologist, Architectural Technician or in a comparable residential technical role.
• Strong experience producing detailed construction drawings.
• Experience of residential development, ideally housing or low-rise residential schemes.
• A good understanding of traditional residential construction.
• Working knowledge of Building Regulations and residential technical standards.
• Experience coordinating architectural information with engineering and other consultant disciplines.
• An understanding of buildability and the practical implications of design decisions.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify potential technical problems before they reach site.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage several projects or workstreams simultaneously.

CAD / Software

Experience using Archicad would be particularly advantageous.

Candidates using other mainstream architectural or BIM packages will also be considered where they can demonstrate strong residential technical experience and the ability to adapt quickly.
