Job summary

AECOM is seeking an Associate Director – Architecture (NSQEP) for Adelaide. You will lead architectural design on defence, research and nuclear projects, guiding teams to meet safety, regulatory and performance standards.

Qualified Architects in Australia or eligible for registration will apply. Relocation may be considered for suitably qualified candidates with extensive leadership experience in regulated sectors.

Qualifications

• Accredited degree in Architecture with current registration as an Architect in Australia, or ability to obtain registration.
• 10–15 years' experience in architecture with leadership on complex defence, research, healthcare or safety‑critical projects.
• Experience in highly regulated environments; nuclear or defence exposure is valued.
• Strong knowledge of nuclear safety frameworks, Defence design requirements and government delivery standards.
• Experience leading architectural teams and multidisciplinary project delivery.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management and client relationship skills.
• Chartered status, membership or relevant postgraduate qualifications will be regarded.

Responsibilities

• Lead architectural design and delivery of defence, research and nuclear infrastructure projects.
• Provide design leadership across multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality outcomes.
• Oversee outputs supporting nuclear safety requirements and regulatory approvals.
• Act as trusted advisor to clients, stakeholders and partners throughout delivery.
• Guide development of innovative, practical and resilient design solutions.
• Mentor architecture team members and foster high-performing culture.
• Support business growth through client engagement and technical leadership.
