Kensa is seeking an Apprentice Technical Support Engineer in Truro. The role includes learning fault-finding and diagnostics, supporting engineers, installers and customers by phone, and gaining hands-on experience with heat pump systems.

As part of the Low Carbon Heating Technician apprenticeship with Cornwall College, Camborne campus, you’ll split time between practical on-site work and weekly college attendance, starting in October. UK-wide travel may be required.

We’re now looking for an Apprentice Technical Support Engineer to join our Technical Support team. This is a practical, varied opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues, build valuable engineering skills and begin a career in the growing low‑carbon heating sector.

If you’re curious about how things work, enjoy solving problems and are keen to learn, this could be a great first step. You’ll combine hands‑on experience with a Low Carbon Heating Technician apprenticeship at Cornwall College, attending the Camborne campus one day each week.

The role

You’ll join our friendly Technical Support team and learn how to help engineers, installers and customers get the best from ground source heat pump systems. With training and mentoring from experienced colleagues, you’ll build confidence in fault‑finding and diagnostics, provide clear support by phone, and gain practical experience both remotely and on site.

As your skills and experience grow, you’ll have the opportunity to take on more responsibility and explore a future career within Kensa’s technical team.

What you’ll be doing

• Support engineers, installers and customers by telephone, listening carefully and communicating clearly and professionally.
• Learn how to diagnose technical faults remotely and help identify practical solutions.
• Assist senior engineers and follow technical guidance, processes and instructions.
• Build knowledge of heat pumps, plumbing, electrical systems and renewable heating technologies.
• Gain experience of zero‑carbon central heating and hot water systems, including installation, commissioning, servicing, maintenance and repair.
• Support site‑based activities when required. The role may involve significant travel during seasonal peaks, potentially across the UK, including overnight stays and time away from home.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues while developing the confidence to complete tasks independently.

Your apprenticeship

You’ll complete the Low Carbon Heating Technician apprenticeship with Cornwall College, attending the Camborne campus one day each week. Your off‑the‑job training will take place during your contracted working hours, so you’ll have dedicated time to learn and develop. We’re ideally looking for someone to start the apprenticeship in October.

The programme will help you develop the knowledge and practical skills to work with low‑carbon heating and hot water systems, including ground and air source heat pumps, associated pipework, components, and mechanical and electrical controls.

What we’re looking for

• Enthusiasm for engineering, renewable energy or learning how things work.
• A positive attitude and willingness to learn, ask questions and develop new skills.
• Clear communication and the ability to listen carefully and work well with others.
• A thoughtful, customer‑focused approach and an interest in solving problems.
• Reliability, attention to detail and a willingness to take responsibility for your work.
• Willingness and availability to undertake significant travel during seasonal peaks, which may be UK‑wide and involve overnight stays.
• A full UK driving licence would be helpful but is not essential.

You don’t need previous experience with heat pumps or to meet every point above. What matters most is your curiosity, willingness to learn and interest in building a career in low‑carbon heating. If the role appeals to you, we encourage you to apply.
