Job summary

GreenGenUK, part of the Hometree Group, is expanding its service team across Devon and Cornwall. We seek an experienced air source heat pump engineer to service, fault-diagnose and optimise systems, with manufacturer training provided.

You will travel throughout the South West, work independently in customers’ homes, and contribute to high-quality service, supported by an in-house team and modern tooling.

Qualifications

• Experience servicing, commissioning or repairing air source heat pumps.
• NVQ Level 2 plumbing and heating qualification (Level 3 preferred).
• G3 Unvented Hot Water qualification.
• Strong knowledge of domestic wet central-heating and hot-water systems.
• Good electrical and controls fault-finding ability.
• Understanding of weather compensation and heating curves.
• Ability to interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams and system schematics.
• Logical and methodical fault diagnosis.
• Strong customer-facing and communication skills.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned servicing of air source heat pump systems.
• Attend breakdowns and investigate faults.
• Fault finding across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and controls.
• Repair or replace defective components.
• Diagnose performance issues and optimize weather controls.
• Check and optimise flow temperatures and pressures.
• Inspect cylinders, pumps, valves and controls.
• Complete commissioning checks after installs or remedial work.
• Carry out warranty inspections and manufacturer remedial work.
• Provide clear quotations for identified repairs.

The Role

You will carry out planned servicing, fault diagnosis, repairs and performance optimisation on domestic air source heat pump systems throughout Devon and Cornwall.

This is primarily a service and maintenance role. You will need to understand and assess the complete heating system rather than considering the heat pump in isolation. This includes the heat pump, heating controls, hot-water cylinder, pumps, valves, emitters, electrical components and system hydraulics.

Your work will include:

• Planned annual servicing of air source heat pump systems
• Attending breakdowns and investigating reported faults
• Mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and controls-based fault finding
• Repairing or replacing defective system components
• Diagnosing poor performance, high energy consumption or comfort issues
• Checking and optimising weather compensation and heating curves
• Reviewing flow temperatures, system pressures, flow rates and temperature differentials
• Inspecting cylinders, pumps, valves, filters, expansion vessels and heating controls
• Completing commissioning checks following installations or remedial works
• Carrying out warranty inspections and manufacturer-authorised remedial work
• Identifying additional repairs and providing clear information for quotations
• Liaising with manufacturers, technical support and our internal operations team
• Explaining system operation clearly to customers
• Providing customers with practical advice on using their system efficiently
• Completing electronic job sheets, photographs, test results and service records
• Maintaining suitable van stock, tools and test equipment
• Supporting installation teams with technical fault finding when required

You will work on systems from manufacturers including Mitsubishi Electric, Vaillant, Samsung and other established heat pump brands.

You do not need previous experience with every system we work on. GreenGenUK will provide manufacturer training and ongoing technical support for individual products and systems.

The role includes paid travel throughout The South West.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for an experienced and methodical heating engineer who enjoys fault finding and takes pride in resolving problems properly.

You should be confident working independently in customers’ homes while knowing when to seek assistance from manufacturers or GreenGenUK’s wider technical team.

The successful candidate should have:

• Practical experience servicing, commissioning or repairing air source heat pumps
• NVQ Level 2 plumbing and heating qualification as a minimum, with Level 3 preferred
• G3 Unvented Hot Water qualification
• Strong knowledge of domestic wet central-heating and hot-water systems
• Good electrical and controls-based fault-finding ability
• An understanding of system balancing, flow rates and weather compensation
• The ability to interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams and system schematics
• A logical and methodical approach to diagnosing faults
• Strong customer-facing and communication skills
• The ability to explain technical issues in straightforward language
• Confidence using a mobile phone or tablet to complete service records
• The ability to work independently and manage a field-based workload
• A professional attitude and commitment to high-quality workmanship
• A full UK driving licence

Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous, although manufacturer and product-specific training will be provided:

• Mitsubishi Ecodan experience or manufacturer training
• Vaillant aroTHERM experience or manufacturer training
• Samsung heat pump experience or manufacturer training
• Experience working with R290 heat pump systems
• A recognised heat pump installation or service qualification
• Electrical qualifications or formal electrical fault-finding training
• Water Regulations qualification
• F-Gas and/or hydrocarbon refrigerant training
• Experience with underfloor heating and multi-zone heating controls
• Familiarity with MCS standards and renewable-heating commissioning documents
