Job summary

The Receptionist apprenticeship with McArthur Dean Training Ltd trains you to be the first point of contact for patients and visitors, delivering a professional, friendly and efficient reception service while supporting day-to-day operations and maintaining confidentiality.

You will study Customer Service Practitioner Level 2 and Business Administrator Level 3 through McArthur Dean Training, with ongoing employer support and on-the-job training to develop strong communication and IT skills.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, visitors and healthcare professionals.
  • Answer telephone calls promptly and direct enquiries appropriately.
  • Manage patient appointments using the clinical system.
  • Check patients in for appointments and notify clinicians of arrivals.
  • Deal with patient enquiries face-to-face and via telephone.
  • Signpost patients to appropriate services.
  • Provide a high standard of customer service.
  • Communicate sensitively and effectively.
  • Respond appropriately to vulnerable or distressed patients.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Comply with GDPR and practice policies.
  • Ensure secure handling of patient information.
  • Complete mandatory Information Governance training.
  • Comply with health and safety policies.
  • Report hazards and incidents promptly.
  • Maintain a safe and tidy reception environment.

Job description

The Receptionist is the first point of contact for patients and visitors attending the practice. The postholder will provide a professional, friendly, and efficient reception service, ensuring patients receive excellent customer care while supporting the smooth day‑to‑day operation of the practice. The role includes administration duties, appointment management, and must maintain confidentiality.

Apprenticeship Standard

Candidates will study Customer Service Practitioner Level 2/Business Administrator Level 3 Framework via McArthur Dean Training and in addition the candidate will be supported by on‑going training and support from the employer.

Hours of Work

Monday – Friday, 9.00am – 5.00pm (35 hours)
