Apprenticeship Opportunity: Maintenance Operative at NHS Property Services (NHSPS)

We are launching our 2025 Maintenance Operative Apprenticeship Scheme (Level 2) and are seeking motivated and enthusiastic Apprentices to join our team. This is an excellent chance to gain practical experience, learn from experienced professionals, and develop a career in Facilities Management.

Our Maintenance Operatives are essential in maintaining and repairing NHS buildings and facilities. The apprenticeship provides a structured learning environment where you'll work alongside seasoned professionals, developing skills in plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, and general maintenance. We have 5 positions available in northern and southern regions.

This is a 2-year commitment with an apprenticeship training plan leading to a qualification. Recruitment days are scheduled for 25th June 2025 at our London office, 10 South Colonnade E14 4PU. Candidates must be available to attend in person. Successful applicants will start in September 2025.

Location:

Lakeside North Harbour, Western Road, Portsmouth P06 3EN.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in routine maintenance, safety checks, and reporting hazards or faults; supporting plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and decorating tasks.
  • Learning from mentors; participating in on-site and off-site training, including classes and workshops.
  • Developing skills and knowledge aligned with the apprenticeship; completing assignments towards the qualification.
  • Gaining insight into NHSPS best practices and earning a professional qualification alongside the role.

Candidate requirements:

  • Minimum GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above).
  • Enthusiastic about practical work; no prior experience needed.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Team player with stakeholders.
  • Valid driving license required by the end of the apprenticeship.
  • Must be 16 or older and not in full-time education.
