Job summary

Dunlop Oil & Marine Limited is offering an apprenticeship where you will gain hands-on experience across laboratory, testing and manufacturing activities. You will work with experienced staff to learn how materials and products are tested to meet quality standards.

The role covers materials testing, PU hose testing, compounds and moulding, P3 fittings testing and hose life assessment, developing practical skills in a real working environment.

Qualifications

• GCSEs including Maths, English and Science.
• Good communication (verbal and written).
• Self motivated.
• Well organised to meet changing priorities.
• Physically fit.

Responsibilities

• Sample, test and label incoming goods and overage materials.
• Test PU hose covers.
• Mould and test rubber compounds.
• Sample, test and adjust concentration levels of wash reagents from the P3 fittings tanks.
• Methodically extract cords from large hose carcass sections taken from returned hoses (manual handling and wearing of extensive PPE required)

Job Description

As an Apprentice, you'll gain practical, hands-on experience across a range of laboratory, testing and manufacturing activities. You'll work alongside experienced team members, developing your technical knowledge and learning how materials, components and products are tested to meet quality and performance requirements.

What you'll get involved in

Materials Testing: Sample and test incoming materials, record results, apply appropriate labelling and support accurate reporting.

PU Hose Testing: Carry out testing on PU hose covers and record and report results.

Compounds & Moulding: Support the moulding process and carry out testing of compounds, gaining an understanding of how materials perform in real-world applications.

P3 Fittings: Sample, test and help monitor and adjust P3 fittings wash tanks to maintain the required standards.

Hose Life Assessment: Extract cords from returned hoses to support product life and performance assessments.

Flex Fatigue Testing: Build, mould, monitor and extract samples for flex fatigue testing, helping assess how products perform under repeated use.

This is a practical and varied apprenticeship where you'll develop valuable skills in laboratory testing, manufacturing processes, quality control and problem-solving, while gaining experience in a real working environment.

Duties , Responsibilities and Key Tasks

Under supervision and in a timely manner sample, test and label incoming goods and overage materials. Maintain efficient paper and electronic filing.

Test and report PU hose covers.

Sample, mould and test rubber compounds to the required standard

Sample, test and adjust concentration levels of wash reagents from the P3 fittings tanks

Methodically extract cords from large hose carcass sections taken from returned hoses (manual handling and wearing of extensive PPE required)

Methodically build and cure Flex Fatigue blocks. Monitor, extract and test cords

Lern and follow the health and safety requirements in relation to the job. Work in a safe manner at all times and to report incidents

Carry out the job requirements in full compliance with the Code of Conduct.
