Leicester City Council is offering an Apprenticeship for an Apprentice Executive Assistant within the Executive Support Team. You’ll gain practical experience in diary management, meeting organisation, report preparation and stakeholder communication while completing an recognised apprenticeship.

Description: Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Fixed Term for 18 months Are you organised, motivated, and looking to start your career in a professional office environment? We have an exciting opportunity to join our friendly and supportive Executive Support Team as an Apprentice Executive Assistant. This role offers the chance to earn while you learn, gaining valuable workplace experience while completing a recognised apprenticeship programme. You'll develop essential administrative, communication, and organisational skills, alongside nationally recognised qualifications, helping you build a successful career in business support and administration. As an Apprentice Executive Assistant, you'll provide administrative support to some of the Council's most senior officers and Executive Members. Working at the heart of the organisation, you'll gain a unique insight into how local government operates and contributes to delivering vital services for the people of Leicester. You'll be part of a welcoming team of nine experienced Executive Assistants who support Directors and Executive Councillors across a wide range of service areas. With their guidance and support, you'll learn how to manage diaries, coordinate meetings, communicate professionally with stakeholders, and help ensure senior leaders can work effectively and efficiently. This apprenticeship offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in a dynamic organisation while developing transferable skills that will benefit you throughout your career. This is a full time, permanent position working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The role is based on a hybrid working arrangement, with a minimum of two full days per week at City Hall, alongside the flexibility to work from home for the remainder of your week, where appropriate. What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll develop practical experience in a variety of administrative tasks, including diary management, organising meetings, preparing reports and agenda packs, taking and distributing meeting notes, responding to enquiries, and maintaining corporate systems. You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to team projects, support organisation wide initiatives, and join staff networks and groups to broaden your understanding of the Council and its work. Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll be supported to build on your existing strengths while developing new skills and confidence. You’ll learn essential workplace skills such as organisation, communication, stakeholder management, problem‑solving, resilience, teamwork, and prioritisation. This role offers an excellent foundation for a successful career in administration, business support, or local government, providing hands‑on experience in a professional and fast‑paced environment.

What You’ll Need

We’re looking for someone who enjoys working collaboratively and can make a positive contribution to both the Executive Support Team and the wider organisation. You’ll be keen to learn from experienced colleagues, share ideas, and provide excellent customer service to a wide range of stakeholders - maintaining a professional, courteous, and confidential approach at all times. The team work in a fast‑paced environment, so you’ll need to be organised, proactive, and willing to take initiative. You’ll be supported to develop your problem‑solving skills and confidence, enabling you to provide effective support to some of the Council’s most senior leaders. Being adaptable and flexible will be important, as priorities and workloads can change quickly. You’ll have good digital skills and be comfortable using IT systems and Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Teams. Most importantly, you’ll have a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a genuine interest in developing your career while contributing to the work of Leicester City Council.
