Job summary

FP McCann Limited offers an apprenticeship as a Construction Support Technician (Level 3) within the Design Department. The role focuses on learning AutoCAD fundamentals, product knowledge, and applying a detailing package to progress drawings from design through to manufacture and delivery.

Training includes day-release sessions with a mentor, enabling progression to detailed layouts on multiple projects and involvement in planning workloads and timelines.

Qualifications

• GCSE English with a minimum grade C/4 or above.
• GCSE Mathematics with a minimum grade B/5 or above.
• UK Driving Licence – Full – Pass.

Responsibilities

• Learn the basic AutoCAD commands and software functions.
• Develop product knowledge of the precast concrete products being detailed.
• Learn how to use the company's design and detailing package within AutoCAD.
• Understand the design office process from receipt of order through to delivery on site.
• Progress to producing drawings and layouts under the guidance of a mentor.
• Attend day-release training to develop knowledge and skills.

Job description

Introduction

To learn the functions and tasks involved in a Design Department operating within the precast concrete industry. You will learn to produce layout drawings using AutoCAD, gain knowledge of FP McCann products and processes, and develop the skills required to manage drawing projects from initial design through to manufacture and delivery.

What You'll Do

What you will do in the short term:

What you will do in the long term:

• Produce detailed drawings and layouts for multiple projects
• Manage projects from approval layouts through to manufacture schedules
• Work with increasing independence while receiving ongoing support
• Become involved in pricing and quotations
• Assist in planning workloads and manufacturing priorities
• Support production planning activities

There are excellent opportunities for progression within FP McCann with a strong focus on continued learning and personal development. Future opportunities include progressing within the Design team using 3D modelling software such as Tekla, or moving into Estimating, Planning, Surveying, Commercial or Contracts roles.
