The North West Genomic Laboratory Hub (Liverpool Site) of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is offering an Apprenticeship for an Apprentice Administrative Assistant. You will provide essential administrative support within the Genomics Laboratory and act as a first point of contact for service users.

This fixed term apprenticeship lasts 18 months with Annex 21 pay during training; upon successful completion the role becomes permanent.

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice Administrative Assistant to join the North West Genomic LaboratoryHub (Liverpool Site). We are looking for a self-motivated, hard working individual with the ability to use their own initiative and work well within a team. The successful candidate will need to be able to prioritise their own workload and demonstrate good communication and organisational skills, whilst adhering to the Trust's Values and Behaviours framework.

This is initially a fixed term contract for the duration of the Apprenticeship programme. On successful completion of the apprenticeship qualification, the role will become permanent.

Main duties of the job

This is an Apprenticeship opportunity, and as such, candidates will be expected to meet the following criteria by the end of their apprenticeship programme.

JOB PURPOSE

  • Undertake defined administrative tasks to assist in the delivery of a safe, effective and efficient Laboratory Genetics Service.
  • Act as a main point of contact for service users, answering telephone calls and responding to emails.
  • Dispatch letters and clinical reports by post or email.
  • Archive and/or scan paper filing of clinical referrals, reports and other laboratory documents.
  • Provide other general administrative duties as required within the team and appropriate to the grade.
  • Collaborate with other members of the department to achieve an effective and reliable service.

Salary Payable

(i) up to 12 months prior to completion of training:

75% of the top of the band

(ii) more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training:

70% of the top of the band

(iii) more than two but less than three years prior to completion of training:

65% of the top of the band

(iv) more than three years from completion of training:

60% of the top of the band

Starting pay for any trainee / apprentice must be no less than the rate of the main (adult) rate of the National Minimum Wage.

What is a DBS Check?

Standard DBS: Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.

Enhanced DBS: Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police that’s considered relevant to the role.

The Costs for a DBS

At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.
