Job summary

James Todd & Co in Chichester offers an Apprentice Accounts Assistant role tied to a Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician apprenticeship. You will gain hands-on experience across accounts prep, tax, and wider practice work while studying at CHICHESTER COLLEGE GROUP.

Summary

Join James Todd & Co as an Apprentice Accounts Assistant and build your career in a well-established accountancy practice. Working with a variety of clients and supporting Accountants in the firm, the successful applicant will also study to achieve a Professional Accounts Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You'll learn on the job by getting hands‑on experience.

What you'll do at work
What you will gain:
  • Experience working with a varied portfolio of clients
  • Working with and supporting qualified Accountants across accounts preparation, tax, and wider practice work as part of your ongoing development
  • Hands‑on experience with client work from an early stage together with the opportunity to build your technical knowledge and progress over time
Key Responsibilities
  • Process client data using cloud software including Xero, Dext, Sage and QuickBooks
  • Develop bookkeeping skills to support progression into year‑end accounts preparation and tax work using the CCH software suite
  • Assist with the preparation of year‑end accounts for Limited Companies, LLPs, Sole Traders and Partnerships
  • Prepare accounts packs and supporting documentation for client submission under the supervision of the portfolio manager
  • Work on file review points and make necessary amendments
  • Assist with the preparation and filing of corporation tax and personal tax returns under supervision
  • Assist with ad hoc duties throughout the year, including P11D submissions
  • Work within agreed client budgets and deadlines
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures, policies and relevant legislation
  • Support Accountants and the wider team as required

Other requirements
  • This is an 18-month apprenticeship plus 4 months end point assessment
  • This role is primarily based at the Chichester office with some attendance at Chichester College and occasional requirement to work from the Fareham office
  • Own transport is essential due to the rural location of the Chichester office (which has limited public transport) and the necessity to travel on occasion
  • Applicants MUST BE resident in the UK for a minimum of 3 years prior to the start of learning and have work authorisation for the UK
  • Applicants WILL NOT BE eligible to apply if they have already achieved a qualification which is equal to or higher thank the apprenticeship standard on offer
  • Applicants MUST BE resident in the area local to the apprenticeship opportunity or be prepared to relocate in time to start employment and study
  • Applicants MUST BE committed to the learning and stay to the end of the apprenticeship
  • Please note that 5 GCSEs are required for the Level 4 Apprenticeship including Math and English and a minimum grade of 4
  • Level 2 or 3 apprenticeship applicants will be considered
  • Level 3 Accounts Assistant will require a Level 2 Finance/Accounts Assistant already achieved
