Job summary

Red King Resourcing is seeking an experienced Application Analyst for a major London market insurance client. The role focuses on detailed discovery and assessment of legacy applications, including Excel/VBA, MS Access, VB/VB6 and PowerBuilder, with emphasis on .NET, Azure and OpenShift.

Based in London EC3 with a hybrid work model (2 days in the office, 3 days remote). The contract is 4-6 months inside IR35 with ASAP start.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Application/Technical Analyst or similar
• 4+ years in an applications-focused technical role
• Strong background in discovery, assessment and modernisation programmes
• Hands-on with Excel/VBA, MS Access, VB/VB6 and PowerBuilder
• Good understanding of modern .NET architectures
• Experience with Azure and/or OpenShift
• Strong understanding of APIs, databases, integrations and system dependencies
• Excellent documentation and requirements gathering skills
• Ability to translate technical findings into business recommendations
• Experience contributing to modernisation or migration programmes
• Knowledge of modernisation approaches and architectures

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed technical discovery and assessment of legacy applications
• Analyze applications using Excel/VBA, MS Access, VB/VB6 and PowerBuilder
• Document functionality, architecture, integrations, data flows and dependencies
• Engage with business users to understand processes and criticality
• Identify technical debt, risks, and modernisation challenges
• Gather and document technical and functional requirements
• Evaluate modernisation approaches: re-engineering, re-platforming, replacement, consolidation and retirement
• Support design of future-state solutions leveraging .NET, Azure and OpenShift
• Produce high-quality assessment reports and recommendations
• Collaborate with architecture, development and DevOps during migration, testing and deployment

Requirements

• We require proven experience as an Application Analyst, Technical Analyst, Application Consultant or in a similar technically focused role.
• We require at least four years of experience as an Application Analyst, Technical Analyst or in a similar applications-focused technical role.
• We require a strong background in application discovery, technical assessment and legacy application modernisation programmes.
• We require hands-on experience assessing and documenting applications built using one or more of the following technologies: Excel/VBA, MS Access, VB/VB6, PowerBuilder.
• We require a good understanding of modern .NET application architectures.
• We require experience or exposure to Azure cloud platforms and/or OpenShift container environments.
• We require a strong understanding of application architecture, APIs, databases, integrations and system dependencies.
• We require excellent analytical, documentation and requirements-gathering skills.
• We require strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across both technical and non-technical audiences.
• We require the ability to translate technical findings into clear business-focused recommendations.
• We require evidence of contributing to application modernisation, migration or transformation programmes.

We are supporting a leading London Market Insurance Group on a major application modernisation programme. The role is based in London EC3 with a hybrid working model of 2 days in the office and 3 days remote. This is an initial 4-6 month contract with likely extensions, offered inside IR35, with an ASAP start. The focus is on discovering, assessing and transforming legacy business-critical applications as we migrate them into modern .NET-based solutions hosted within Azure and OpenShift/containerised environments.
