Job summary

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Apheresis Lead Nurse to oversee the clinical and operational management of the apheresis nursing service within the BMTCT pathway. You will provide expert care to patients and donors, lead a multidisciplinary team and drive quality improvement.

Qualifications

• Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC register.
• Level 7 Post Grad Cert (Min 60 Credits) or Master’s Degree within relevant speciality
• Specialist training / Qualification in area of practice
• Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice.
• Provide evidence of supporting a range of learners in practice
• Supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
• Evidence of experience and completion of all band 6 competencies within relevant speciality
• Desirable criteria include leadership qualification / training and counselling / advanced communication skills qualification / training

Responsibilities

• Provide expert nursing assessment, care and management for patients and donors undergoing apheresis procedures, practising autonomously and providing specialist clinical and technical advice to the multidisciplinary team.
• Lead and coordinate the apheresis nursing service, ensuring safe and effective service delivery, appropriate staffing, workforce planning and the organisation of the emergency on-call service.
• Provide professional leadership and line management to the apheresis nursing team, including supervision, appraisal, competency assessment and ongoing professional development.
• Lead the development and delivery of apheresis education and competency-based training programmes, supporting the development of a skilled and competent workforce.
• Work collaboratively to ensure compliance with HTA requirements and JACIE accreditation standards, contributing to audit, incident investigation, risk management and continuous quality improvement.
• Coordinate specialist care across the apheresis pathway, providing information, education and support to patients, donors and their families, promoting informed decision-making and a positive experience of care.
• Lead the development of nurse-led initiatives, clinical guidelines, protocols and pathways, using evidence, audit and research to improve patient safety, service efficiency and clinical outcomes.
• Collaborate with clinical teams, NHS Blood and Transplant and regional referring centres to support integrated pathways and ongoing service development.
