Job summary

Corehr at the University of Liverpool Leahurst Campus on the Wirral invites applications for a full-time stockperson to care for dairy cattle, sheep and pigs. 35 hours per week with seasonal overtime (10 hours) and weekend rotas.

You will work in a small team alongside students, vets and academics, delivering routine husbandry and practical teaching support. Duties include milking and feeding a 200-cow dairy herd, sheep flock and pig herd, driving farm vehicles, and mentoring work placement

Qualifications

• Knowledge and experience of working with people and farm animals acquired via a period of structured training.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work with diverse staff and students.
• Mentoring work placement students and supporting teaching programmes.

Responsibilities

• Milking, feeding and mucking out of a 200-high-yielding dairy herd and stock.
• Feeding and husbandry of the flock (450 ewes + 120 replacements) and pig herd (15 sows).
• Driving farm vehicles and equipment on/off public highways.
• Tractor driving with stock/grassland skills.

Hours of work: Full-time - 35 hours per week plus contracted overtime of 10 hrs per week with seasonal variation.

An excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and fit person to join a small team working with Dairy cattle on Wood Park Farm and some involvement with sheep and pigs across on Ness Heath farm on the University of Liverpool's Leahurst Campus, near Neston, on the Wirral.

Main duties will be working in a small team to provide care and routine husbandry of all farm livestock. You will be working alongside other staff, with undergraduate vet students, works experience students, vets and academics and other stake holders.

Tasks included:

• Milking, feeding and mucking out of dairy herd of 200 high yielding dairy cows and associated young stock
• Feeding and husbandry of the flock of sheep (450 ewes plus 120 replacements) and pig herd (15 sows)
• Driving farm vehicles and associated equipment on and off the public highway
• Tractor driving with associated stock/grassland skills

A specific role is to mentor work placement students showing them the day-to-day roles of a stock person. You will have knowledge and experience of working with people and farm animals acquired via a period of structured training. You will also be expected to assist other staff in all teaching programmes with undergraduate vet students and to have good communication skills.

The post is a permanent position of 35 hours per week with expected additional 10 hours overtime per week, subject to seasonal variation, and weekend work on a shared rota.
