Job summary

Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking two Anatomical Pathology Technicians to join the Mortuary Services team. The role supports post-mortem examinations and mortuary operations while ensuring dignity and care for the deceased and their relatives.

You will handle routine and specialist mortuary duties, assist with body viewing, and ensure compliance with HTA standards. Training and on-call rotation are included.

Qualifications

• Qualified in Anatomical Pathology Technology (Certificate and Diploma or Level 3/4 Diploma).
• Experience in a mortuary environment and handling mortuary records.
• Experience training and supervising others.
• Experience participating in an on-call rota and working independently.
• Knowledge of HTA standards and mortuary regulatory requirements.
• Strong IT skills and experience using common software applications.
• Excellent communication with police, funeral directors, healthcare professionals, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Undertake routine and specialist mortuary duties and assist with post-mortem examinations, including high-risk cases and Virtopsys.
• Prepare, receive, store, and release deceased patients in accordance with local policies and legal requirements.
• Assist with body viewing arrangements and provide support to funeral directors and other service users.
• Support compliance with HTA regulations and standards.
• Contribute to the maintenance and development of departmental SOPs, risk assessments, and quality standards.
• Train and support junior colleagues and nursing staff in mortuary practices and Care After Death procedures.
• Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota.
