Job summary

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (North Wales) seeks a qualified Anatomical Pathology Technician for the Bereavement and Mortuary Service. The role involves assisting with Coronial and hospital post-mortems, maintaining mortuary and bereavement cover across sites, and ensuring respect and empathy for the bereaved.

Applicants should hold the RSPH Level 3 or 4 in Anatomical Pathology or equivalent, with experience in mortuary work and HTA/Home Office post-mortem standards.

Qualifications

• RSPH level 4 Diploma in Healthcare Science (Anatomical Pathology Technology) or equivalent knowledge.
• Knowledge of current legislation relating to Coroner’s post mortems, death registration and statutory duties.
• Knowledge of the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) structures.
• Experience of working in a mortuary.
• Experience of supporting distressed and bereaved people.
• Ability to demonstrate compassion towards the bereaved.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work alone or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist pathologist to a high-quality standard with Coronial and hospital post-mortems.
• Provide mortuary and bereavement cover on other sites within BCUHB.
• Work within Home Office and Coronial post-mmortem requirements and HTA standards.
• Demonstrate empathy towards the bereaved and maintain dignity and respect at all times.
• Regular contact with external agencies such as Coroner services, Police and Funeral Directors.
