Job summary

Pleo is hiring for a senior Analytics Engineer in Data Services & Governance to own the semantic layer and analytics standards. You’ll define and maintain models used by AI agents, BI tools, and analysts across the organisation.

You’ll shape the tooling stack (dbt, LookML, BigQuery, SQL) and drive AI-native development within a governed framework, partnering with senior engineers and product teams.

Qualifications

• Deep demonstrated expertise in dbt and modelling practices.
• Deep BigQuery and SQL expertise with performance focus.
• Experience owning a semantic layer (LookML, dbt MetricFlow, or equivalent).
• AI-native development practices integrated into data engineering work.
• Ability to set standards across teams you don’t directly manage.

Responsibilities

• Own the semantic layer: define metrics, enforce consistency, and provide one canonical definition for key business metrics.
• Set data modelling standards across domains and ensure scalable architecture.
• Build and run a community of practice for analytics engineering with documented patterns.
• Lead AI-native development and evaluate safe, governed AI tooling within the workflow.
• Drive AI-assisted data migrations and schema ownership across platforms.
• Design data models so AI services can consume data reliably without human touch.
• Collaborate with backend engineers on data contracts and upstream schema ownership.
• Contribute to external analytics products with robust data modelling patterns.
