Job summary

British American Tobacco UK is offering an Undergraduate Intern – Analytical Science in Southampton for a 12-month fixed-term placement. The role focuses on hands-on experience with advanced mass spectrometry and analytical techniques within the Advanced Analytical team.

You will develop data analysis, scripting and process automation skills, contribute to innovative projects and plan a research project addressing an analytical challenge with mentorship and regular reviews.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Forensic Science or related field.
• Awareness of analytical and chemical sciences.
• Basic knowledge of mass spectrometry.
• Experience with data analysis.
• Experience with Python or R.
• Be self-motivated and proactive, with good time management and organisational skills.
• Collaborative and positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, and test an automated workflow for targeted and non-targeted analysis in one or more R&D projects using mass spectrometry, LC and GC.
• Design a programme to analyse and interpret complex spectral data.
• Work closely with experienced scientists in planning, design and conduct of laboratory experiments.
• Develop and/or optimise analytical methods (e.g., measuring constituents of modern oral products).
