Job summary
British American Tobacco Group in Southampton is offering an Undergraduate Intern – Analytical Science for a 12-month placement starting 1 September 2027. You will join our Advanced Analytical team and gain hands-on experience with mass spectrometry, chromatography, data analysis, scripting, and process automation in a busy lab setting.
You will work with experienced scientists, identify and plan a research project, develop analytical methods, and contribute to innovative research addressing
Qualifications
- Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Forensic Science or related discipline.
- Awareness of analytical and chemical sciences.
- Basic knowledge of mass spectrometry.
- Experience with data analysis.
- Experience with Python or R.
- Self-motivated and proactive with good time management.
- Collaborative and positive attitude.
Responsibilities
- Develop, validate, and test automated workflows for targeted and non-targeted analysis using mass spectrometry, chromatography and related technologies.
- Design a programme to analyse and interpret complex spectral data.
- Work with experienced scientists to plan and conduct laboratory experiments for R&D projects.
- Develop or optimise analytical methods relevant to modern oral products.
