Job summary

Cincinnatus LLC is seeking a Chemistry SME to join a cutting-edge AI research effort in the UK. You will contribute deep hands-on lab expertise to the design and evaluation of AI models for chemistry, including multi-step route design and spectral analysis.

We value PhD-level chemists with 3+ years of experience, strong communication, and the ability to work at least 20 hours per week. This is a part-time role through our staffing partner, with placement at a leading AI lab.

Qualifications

• PhD in chemistry or equivalent research experience.
• 3+ years of hands-on chemistry experience at a recognized organization.
• Hands-on experience in small-molecule synthesis and multi-step route design.
• Proficiency in analytical techniques such as NMR, MS, IR and HPLC/LC-MS.
• Comfortable using cheminformatics and scientific AI tools.
• Ability to commit at least 20 hours/week during weekdays.

Responsibilities

• Guide research and engineering teams to improve AI model performance in synthetic chemistry and related areas.
• Design benchmarks, tasks and training data; develop solutions for chemical problems.
• Evaluate model outputs and provide clear technical feedback on chemistry reasoning.
• Develop grading rubrics and verification processes for chemistry data.
• Advise on experimental design and chemical validity of model outputs.
• Collaborate with other SMEs to ensure data accuracy.
