Job summary

Wigan & Leigh College and University Centre is seeking an experienced electrician to join our licensed AM2 Assessment Centre at Pagefield. You will observe candidates, apply assessment criteria, and determine whether the required standard is demonstrated, maintaining independence from training guidance.

This non-teaching role enables senior electricians to use their industry expertise while supporting accreditation in the electrical sector. A strong professional conduct is essential.

Qualifications

• Significant practical experience as an electrician.
• Current ECS Gold Card as Installation Electrician and underpinning qualifications.
• BS 7671 qualification and Level 3 Inspection & Testing capability.
• First Aid at Work qualification or ability to obtain before first independent assessment.
• Assessor award or certificate, or ability to achieve within NET’s timescale.

Responsibilities

• Deliver independent AM2-series assessments in line with NET requirements.
• Observe candidates undertaking practical electrical activities.
• Assess installation, safe isolation, inspection and testing, fault diagnosis and rectification where required.
• Make objective, evidence-based assessment decisions.
• Record assessment activity accurately using NET’s systems.
• Maintain clear and auditable assessment evidence.
• Monitor safe working and intervene where there is an unacceptable risk.
• Keep assessment bays, equipment and resources ready for use.
• Take part in NET standardisation, quality assurance and audit activity.
• Maintain your technical knowledge, occupational competence and required approvals.

About This Job

AM2 means something in the electrical industry.

It’s where candidates demonstrate that they can take the knowledge and skills they’ve developed and apply them independently, safely and to the standard expected of a competent electrician.

We’re looking for an experienced electrician to join our licensed AM2 Assessment Centre at Pagefield and help us maintain that standard.

This isn’t a teaching role. You won’t coach candidates through their assessment or tell them what to do next. Instead, you’ll observe what they actually do, apply the assessment criteria fairly and consistently and make sound professional judgements about whether the required standard has been demonstrated.

For someone with substantial electrical industry experience, it’s a different way to use your expertise while continuing to play an important role in the profession.

What you’ll do

What you’ll bring

• Significant practical experience as an electrician.
• Strong knowledge of electrical installation, inspection and testing, safe isolation and fault diagnosis.
• A current ECS Gold Card as an Installation Electrician with the required underpinning qualifications.
• A current BS 7671 qualification.
• An appropriate Level 3 Inspection and Testing qualification.
• A First Aid at Work qualification or the ability to achieve this before your first independent assessment.
• An assessor award or certificate, or the ability to achieve one within NET’s required timescale.
• Confidence making objective judgements against defined standards.
• Good digital skills and the ability to maintain detailed assessment records.
• Previous AM2 assessment experience would be an advantage, but isn’t essential if you meet NET’s eligibility requirements.
