Job summary

SILA Linguists is seeking freelance Albanian interpreters and translators for immigration, legal, healthcare and public service assignments across the UK. You will work with Gheg and Tosk dialects, providing remote video or telephone interpretation or on-site support at client premises.

Responsibilities include interpreting in police, court and immigration settings, translating civil and legal documents, and maintaining strict confidentiality while building sector glossaries.

Qualifications

• Albanian speakers fluent in English with register-switching ability.
• DPSI/DPI or equivalent qualification is an advantage; CIOL/ITI membership welcome.
• Understanding of both Gheg and Tosk Albanian.
• Willingness to complete a DBS check for healthcare/education/vulnerable people assignments.
• Right to work in the UK for on-site assignments.
• Reliable internet, headset and quiet workspace for remote work.

Responsibilities

• Interpret for Gheg and Tosk speakers in police, court and immigration settings.
• Translate Albanian and Kosovan civil and legal documents accurately.
• Keep everything you hear and read on assignments strictly confidential, and remain impartial.
• Build and maintain your own glossaries for the sectors you work in.
• Deliver written translations that are accurate, complete and proofread, on or before the agreed deadline.
• Work remotely by video or telephone, or on site at the client's premises, arriving prepared and on time.
• Produce accurate transcripts and English translations of recorded Albanian speech, for example police interviews or research recordings.
