SILA Linguists in the United Kingdom is seeking freelance Amharic interpreters and translators for immigration, healthcare, legal and children's services assignments. Fluency in Amharic and English is required; Oromo or Tigrinya knowledge is advantageous.

You will work remotely by video or telephone, or on-site at client premises, with strict confidentiality and impartiality. Qualifications such as DPSI or DPI are advantageous; DBS checks may be required, and UK rights to work apply.

Qualifications

• Excellent spoken and written Amharic and English; ability to switch register for different clients.
• DPSI or DPI or equivalent qualification is an advantage; CIOL or ITI membership welcome.
• Oromo or Tigrinya language skills are an advantage.
• Willingness to complete a DBS check for healthcare/education/vulnerable settings.
• Right to work in the UK for on-site assignments.

Responsabilités

• Interpret for Ethiopian clients with neutrality on political/ethnic matters.
• Translate Amharic documents written in Ge'ez script into English.
• Maintain confidentiality and impartiality on assignments.
• Build and maintain glossaries for sectors worked in.
• Deliver accurate, complete translations on or before deadlines.
• Work remotely by video/telephone or on-site at client premises.
• Produce transcripts and English translations of recorded Amharic speech.
